The Importance Of Website Security For Your Business
The Importance Of Website Security For Your Business
Did you know there are around 65,000 attempts to hack SMEs in the UK every day?
Data breaches not only come with a considerable cost but they can also damage your business reputation, with 33% of UK organisations reporting that they lost customers after a data breach and 41% of consumers claiming that they willnever return to a business following a breach.
With these key statistics in mind, web security should be a top concern for your business.
You will be pleased to learn that cyber-security is at the forefront of our web development services. Here are the steps we take to keep your website secure:
Our Launch Checklist
Every website we build goes through a vigorous 58-point checklist prior to launch. Many of these elements are to protect our sites from hackers such as:
- ensuring admin login areas are on secret, non-obvious URL
- using a CDNs to protect from DDoS attacks, and malicious bot abuse
- hardening of config files,
- using SSL Certificates
- limiting the numbers of logins, before blocking a user’s credentials
- IP blocking
Add HTTPS and an SSL Certificate
HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. – You will have seen this as the little padlock that appears next to a URL on a webpage. This means that the data shared between your computer and the site you’re browsing is encrypted and confidential. It helps verify ownership of the website and conveys trust to the website users.
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer – An SSL Certificate is required to change your website from HTTP (not secure) to HTTPS (secure).
Both of these data confidentiality measures are implemented across all of our websites.
Using a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
A CDN refers to a geographically distributed group of servers that work together to ensure speeding browsing and downloading of web content. CDNs also provide an additional layer of security to your servers and website as they provide firewalls, can mitigate DDoS attacks, shield APIs, helps manage bots and further website optimisations.
Keep on top of software updates
We ensure that WordPress, along with any plugins and themes installed on your site, are kept up to date with our maintenance packages.
Updates often contain security enhancements and vulnerability repairs and so keeping software up-to-date is vital to the health and security of your website.
Daily offsite backups
To prevent any loss of data we back-up all websites daily. These backups are then replicated to three separate geographic locations and stored 90 days. This process ensures that your site and all your data can be completely restored should your website ever crash.
This also helps if you inadvertently delete some important elements or if a theme or plugin harms your site (although we always advise that you consult with our team before making any potentially damaging edits to your website yourself, we are here to help you!).
